Pest Control Helpful Hints: Keeping Summer Pests at BayPest Control
Warm weather brings sunshine, outdoor fun—and plenty of buzzing visitors. While most insects are simply annoying, some can carry diseases or deliver painful stings. A little preparation goes a long way toward keeping your summer safe and comfortable. Try these simple tips.
- Check for wasp nests before doing yardwork. If you notice wasp activity, treat the nest with an appropriate spray to eliminate the colony.
- Be cautious when eating or drinking outdoors. Pour sodas into clear plastic cups so you can see if any insects have slipped inside.
- If you’re stung, act quickly. Remove the stinger if visible, gently squeeze out any venom, wash the area with soap and water, and apply antibiotic ointment. Use ice to reduce swelling.
- Use insect repellent with DEET for mosquito protection. Avoid using DEET on infants under two months old, and apply sparingly on young children.
- Dress smart in mosquito‑heavy areas. Wear long sleeves and long pants, and tuck pant legs into socks to keep mosquitoes from reaching your skin.
- Eliminate standing water around your home. Mosquitoes can breed in even shallow puddles. Empty buckets, birdbaths, planters, and anything else that collects water.
